Pinterest Challenge #3 – Unicorn Cupcakes (Kind of)

Hello huns

If you are new to the blog then welcome and for the past few months I have collaborated on a few blog posts with the lovely Bexa from Hello Bexa. We set each other three challenges to complete and this is the final one… I’m actually really sad it’s over. Bexa set sent me three pins of Pinterest to complete and I did the same to her, as we all know how the photo looks and when you complete it yourself are two different things.

To read my last two challenges:

Pinterest challenge #1 Cot mobile

Pinterest Challenge #2 Painted Jar

To read Bexa’s last two challenges:

Pinterest Challenge #1 Cat Origami Bookmarks

Pinterest Challenge #2 Strawberry Ice Pops

The final challenge – Unicorn cupcakes

So Bexa set me the challenge of making unicorn cupcakes and I thought “Yes great, I love baking something I can make and also unicorns!!” Well that’s not exactly how everything turned out.

This was what I was sent. I would like to point out the blogger who made the recipe was that she was extremely vague and I had go seek a recipe elsewhere for cupcake and icing.

Attempt #1

So I was already doing some baking at the time for my mum’s birthday, I thought I’d whip up some cupcakes too. Yeah that didn’t go to plan… probably should have let myself focus on the job in hand a bit more and not do too much at once.

I found when I dipped the cupcake into the sprinkles it just smushed the icing. So they were extremely delicious but not too appealing to the eye.

I’d also like to note I had fondant icing to make the horns for these cupcakes, however my boyfriend ate them. When I asked why he said they were on the side… OK well with that logic we will move on then.

Attempt #2

I thought shall I just let it be… give my readers my normal speel about how I can’t make anything pretty? Well it did cross my mind, but I thought NO I’ll give it another shot. I’ll be there for you guys. If you want to see a unicorn cupcake….then go elsewhere because the second attempt wasn’t much better

Hm maybe a slight improvement. I tried adding candles as horns but I’m not sure I’m kidding anyone. The recipe I used was a mixture of the BBC Good Food cupcake recipe and the baking mad recipe. The only thing I would say is that I gained three pearls of wisdom, oh wait four from this challenge

1. This would probably pass at a kid’s party where the theme was pink sick and the adults picked the kids up at the end when they had already eaten them.

2. Never leave anything on the side in the kitchen it will get eaten

3. I obtained this beauty from Home and Bargains for £3.99 and it’s so pretty. I obviously need more practice

4. Don’t leave cakes out or you will eat them.

So I’m not GR8 at making things beautiful, but let’s be honest I’m not Bree Van De Kamp so we all need that friend who will eat your baked goods and that is me.

I hope you enjoyed this series of challenges with Hello Bexa and make sure you go check out her blog post to see how she did on her challenge.

Let me know if you have had any baking disasters like mine.

  1. I think these turned out really well Kay! They are so pretty, I’m loving all the colourful sprinkles 😍. He he, it made me laugh when you said your boyfriend ate the unicorn horn 😂. It reminds me of the time I was making a gingerbread house and my dad came over and ate the front door 🤣🙈. Fab post girl! I’m sad it’s over too – maybe we should do it again in the future! 😘💕 xx

    1. Thank you lovely! Haha they tasted better then they looked, like a party in your mouth! I was so annoyed when I found out… an overreaction Jackson for sure. Hahahah my dad would do the same!!
I know I’m sad too, I’ve had such fun and I’m so glad I feel we formed a great start to a friendship! Definitely not the last time we blog and hopefully we can meet one day.

  2. “Pink sick”, oh, Kate, you do make me laugh! I rarely if ever bake because my creations just look like I’ve dropped them, even though they taste nice. My world was changed when I discovered Dr Oetker’s squirty icing though, it hides a multitude of sins! Fab post 🙂 x
