Review of Foundations – a guide to help cover acne.

Hello guys,

Again something a little different from me.. a make-up review?! If only my 14 year old self could see me now and my love for make-up… she probably would have rolled her eyes and said “whatever”. I was very moody and going through the teenage angst… but weren’t we all?

During pregnancy and if I think back to before (it feels like a lifetime ago!) I have often suffered with acne on my cheeks. This has always been the case and I know it’s a combination of hormones and also bad diet. I notice when I eat more junk food my spots of my cheeks flare up. They can be quite angry, red and look like I’m embarrassed if you can’t see close enough.

I’ve tested a few foundations over the past few months and this is my review of the four I tried. I have tried other foundations before but I wanted to include the four I’ve tried whilst I noticed my cheeks have been a problem.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Maximum Coverage

I think this is my favourite ever foundation and also, it comes in lots of different shades so winner! This is the second tube I’ve bought because I love the look it gives my skin and it goes a long way. Although it’s maximum coverage it doesn’t make your skin look cakey, rather silky smooth and dewey. You only need a small amount and it covers your whole face. This is definitely my favourite foundation for covering my acne cheeks as it does the job and it doesn’t wear off throughout the day. However I understand this would not be everyone’s choice as it does provide FULL coverage.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup

Why, you may ask, are there two Estee Lauder foundations featured? Well I bought this Estee Lauder foundation pre buying my second tube of the above foundation as it was on offer. Although it says double wear and stay in place, I often find I need a lot more to cover my face and it often comes off onto the clothes I’m wearing – not ideal!! I will however wear this on a night out or if I’m not doing my make-up until the evening. Yet I did buy this at the start of my pregnancy and I still have some left so I don’t think I’ll be rebuying it.

L’Oreal Infallible Total Coverage

Now this foundation is just, how do I explain, WOW. I had previously tried the Infallible primer and when I was looking for a more affordable foundation I reached for this in the shops. It comes out as mousy texture and provides a nice full coverage like it says on the package. I think for the price this is a really good foundation and it lasted a good while. I will buy this again as I’m so close to running out but I’m just being lazy.

Maybelline Fit me!

I bought this foundation when I was prepping my hospital bag. I wanted to take some make-up bits with me so I don’t look so horrendous following the birth and I know there will be lots of pictures with my little one. Probably a bit foolish to pick up a new foundation that I hadn’t used before but I wanted to try it out.
I have tried it out before putting it in my hospital bag and my thoughts are that it’s a liquid and comes out very fast! Forever hiding the foundation stained carpet in the bedroom from Andy… It doesn’t provide FULL coverage, but it does create a nice silky smooth appearance and provides some coverage. I’m undecided as to whether I will re-purchase this in the future.

Let me know if you have any recommendations for foundations I should be using.

  1. I have been wanting to try the Estee Lauder Double Wear for quite some time now! If you ever have the chance to get your hands on It Cosmetics CC Cream, DO IT. It is my holy grail because it is moisturizing without being oily, covers everything, and feels like nothing on your face. Such a shame it is only available in the U.S.!

  2. Have you ever tried The Ordinary Coverage Foundation by Deceim? I have been using it for a few months now and for the price, you can’t beat it. I am Curious how it stacks up to these, especially because a few of them have been on my list for some time now.

Thank you for sharing this, I am always looking for better foundations for Acne skin because the struggle is real.
